by Tshepo Ditshego - Mar 13, 2008
Yesterday LOP management had a meeting with the teams in the LOP and one of the issues that was raised was the lack of support at games. It was suggested that teams start running their teams professionaly so that they can start marketing and creating fan bases. This fan base would be the foundation of a regular crowd that would attend the LOP games.

South African basketballEgoli Magic vs Wits Alumni
by Tshepo Ditshego - Mar 4, 2008
Who would have ever thought that one game into the LOP season a team made up of veterans could actually have a shot at winning the title? Which team am I talking about you ask? Well none other than Wits Alumni. This team was started a few years ago in order to give former Wits players a platform to exercise while playing the game that they love. The reason why I think Alumni has a chance to scoop the title are the key additions to their squad of seasoned national team vets.

South African basketballBasketball SA- Questions about corporate governance?
by Tshepo Ditshego - Feb 5, 2008
Even before Eskom started it's load shedding many basketball players will tell you that basketball has been without power for the last decade. Since the Basketball SA and the department of Sport met last year to discuss the status of basketball we have not had an update from either of the parties. I understand that at the meeting held last year it was decided that the President was supposed to call a meeting to discuss the finances & the constitution before the end of 2007.

If you were at any of the LOP basketball events towards the end of 2007, you will know that basketball is well on its way back up the sporting ranks. LOP was launched in September 2007 and by December 2007, it had already managed to secure radio airtime exposure well over R600 000 through its partners, particularly ESPN and Newtown Improvement District (NID). Even more exciting was the fact that for the first time in many years, basketball players could play to thousands of spectators.
