The weekend becomes even more exciting as the womens league has Varsity Leopards and JBC with identical records. The forfeit that both teams have was for a game between them. Now the season is going to be decided by one game. On paper Varsity has an urge as its player loss is not as critical as JBC. Varsity has lost Charity Chigumba (-86) whilst JBC has lost Fadzi Mabasa and Isobel Tengende who are all in school in RSA but JBCs woes continue as inspirational centre Sibongile Mnkandla is done for the season. But do not be surprised to see all the college girls back on Sunday as that game is key. The Misihairabwi sisters Julie and Alice will have to lead the JBC pack past Rachel Makoni and Varsity Leopards. Leopards are loaded with Alex Maseko, Patience Chinhoyi (183-C-83), Gladys Phiri (168-G-81) and veteran Lucia Marisamhuka. JBC has Sokuluhle Mlothwa, Serina Chareka, Alice Mandivheyi (165-G-85), Joyce-Jordan Muchenu and Caroline Mukonowatsauka to counter.
The heartbreak of hundreds Zimbabwean - Mar 13, 2009 (by Roderick Takawira)

The Zimbabwe-South Africa clash turned into a heartbreaker for the hundreds of Zimbabwean fans who turned out to cheer their senior women's team as they attempted to qualify for the Africa Nations Cup. Zimbabwe lost both games by a point after leading most of the way. It was Zimbabwe's inability to close games that cost them. Overall Zimbabwe wasted a lot of easy opportunities especially free throws and lay-ups. It could have been a different story had Isobel Tengende managed to sink the second shot to tie the game with 3 seconds on the clock. That miss was rebounded by South Africa and they ran the clock out. South Africa were not impressive but you could not fault their commitment. They shot as badly as 2 out of 15 3-pointers but the second of that 3-pointer put them up by 2 points at 49-47. Tengende's one made free throw made it a final 49-48. In the Saturday game Zimbabwe lost 44-45. Considering that in both games Zimbabwe led most of the way but buckled in the last 20 seconds of the 4th quarter means some attention needs to be paid to the physical condition of our players.
In other games played over the weekend JBC bounced back to winning ways with a 109-51 drubbing of South Central. Stormers overcame Faith Wear Jammers 77-63 and are set to replace Jammers in the post-season. In the battle of Glen Norah vs Glen View, Glen Norah Pistons beat Glen View Nuggets 64-57 to claim the 2 game series by a 2 point aggregate. Nuggets had beaten Pistons 64-59 in the first game of the season. Pross beat Gentlemen's Association 58-57 but are still a game behind Pistons for a spot in the post season. Pross and Pistons are dead even and a tie breaker will need results from other games. Pistons won 58-55 in the first half whilst Pross took the second game 51-48.
