 | 16th CCCOI 2008 : Sebam and Sotrata crowned champions | |
|
| | |
The 16th tournament of the CCOI was under the spell of Madagascar, as both teams from the island took home the mens and the womens titles respectively.
Although they came to Mauritius with a small staff (Only eight players traveled to Mauritius for SEBAM), the two teams from the big island have shown that their players remain technically and tactically superior to others in the zone.
But before reaching the finals, SEBAM had to throw in all they got to edge Real BC Port Louis of Mauritius 73-69 in the semis.
Coach Salimshita had in Charles Rabekoto the MVP of the tourney on the squad and SEBAM already had the title secured by halftime of the final game when they led by 21 points just to extend it by the end of the third to 26 points (66-40).
SEBAM now recorded the third straight title at the CCCOI, while Real BC Port Louis beat St.Pierre of Reunion 78-75 to finish third in this year's mens competition.
The committee of the zone seven decided that 17th edition will be held in the Seychelles next year.

 | What a shame for Mauritius Men's Basketball Team! | |
|
| | | What a shame for Mauritius Men's Basketball Team! 102-58 this was the final score, unbelievable!!!! the Seychelles played a very nice and well oiled basketball against a very weak team of Mauritius, repeating many fouls and turovers. The team mates of Leny was very serious in their matter, giving no chance to the Mauritians in the offensive game. We can see a very bad preparation of the Mauritian team, falling on the wood after each hard knock of the Dallons. No reaction by the way from the Mauritian Coach: Jean Michel Seneque, i think this time he must keep his tongue in his mouth, months ago he was dreaming of a Bronze medal, this mission is impossible right now because they will face the strongest team of the tournament the Speedies Gonzales of the indian ocean, the Giants, favourite because playing at home...Madagascar. This will be the second game in the Group A. We hope that the selection play a better game and most probably the last game for the mauritian team! We must not forget that Mauritius is not playing with all his best players and coach(Faida Antoine de Padoue) :Rony Nagloo (MVP of the Mauritian 2006 League),Ghyslain Fanny, Giovani Bangard, Gansham Heera(2m04), Bradley Grandsable, Gino Bader, Pascal Prayag, Jean Francois Namasivayen all these guys contesting the nomination of the actual mauritian coach!!! so here you are , this is the result that you will have if you nominate the wrong guy at the right place. | The CJSOI Game - Basket - Ball | |
|
| | |
The CJSOI is now over and once more, Reunion Island won the title in basket - ball against the Madagascar Team in a really exciting final match on the score of 78-67. As for the Mauritius Team, they won the Bronze medal against the Mayotte Team on the score of 54-38.
This tournament has shown that the gap that exists between Mauritius Basket - Ball and the Reunion or Madagascar, is not so far, especially when you take into consideration that these 2 countries begin basket - ball at a much early age and have much sport facility there.
The bronze medal that Mauritius won in this tournament, the Silver medal that the Hoop basket - ball club won in the CCCOI this year and the win of the Flippers over the Premium Cobras shows an indication that Mauritius Basket - Ball is progressing and that the National Team, if given the adequate facilities by the Government, will be able to do much honour to Mauritius basket - ball in the Indian Ocean Games next year in Madagascar.
So, for once more, congrats to the Mauritius Basket - Ball Team that participated in the CJSOI and to the Coach, Rubin Batterie and Dominique Marisson and to Faida Antoine de Padoue for their great job.
Below, is the results of the tournament:
